The Bakersfield Pet Food Pantry emerged out of a pursuit to support the community, and a desire for actions to speak louder than words. Established in 2009, we’re an organization driven by compassion. The Bakersfield Pet Food Pantry provides a resource to help owners continue caring for their long term family pets despite economic hardship.
FAQ
When are you open?
We are open the second and fourth Saturday of every month from 10am-12pm. We have refrigerator magnets with a calendar that highlights the days we are open. Be sure to ask for yours.
Who do you help?
Our mission is to assist long term pet owners who have fallen on unexpected hard times. We help everyone the first time, then look over the application that you will fill out the first time you visit the Pantry, to determine if we can continue to help you.
Can you add pets to your home?
NO! That is our primary rule. If you are struggling to feed the pets you have it is not reasonable to add pets to your home, for any reason. If we are assisting you with pet food or you plan to request assistance the next year, you cannot add a pet.
Do you only help Bakersfield residents?
No, our services are available to all Kern county residents.
Do you deliver?
No, we are a very small, grass roots, non- profit and we do not have the manpower to deliver pet food.
Do you accept donations?
Yes =) Everything that we provide to the community has been donated to us. We accept pet food, pet supplies, pet toys, blankets, pillows, sheets, and monetary donations. If you are unsure about something you want to donate, give us a call (661) 369-1222.
Do you take open bags of pet food?
Yes we do.
Where can I donate pet food or supplies?
Volunteers are at the Pantry most every Saturday morning working on stock or helping the public if it is a distribution day. You can drop off donations on Saturday mornings. We also have donations barrels around town - at all 3 Self Serve Pet Spa locations, Scruffy to Fluffy Pet Spa, Coffee Road Vet Hospital, and Fur and Feathers Pet Resort.
Do you accept monetary donations?
We absolutely accept monetary donations and we appreciate them very much. Since we are a brick and mortar non-profit we have monthly costs that allow us to remain open. Rent for the warehouse, PG&E, the cost of gas to pick up large donations, insurance, etc. Being able to pay these bills allows us to remain open so that we can provide pet food to the community. Â
Monetary donations can be made through Paypal and Venmo. By mailing a check to our PO Box, which is 20801, Bakersfield 93390. Finally we accept good old fashioned cash.
